Digital Photography & Imaging - Week 6

  DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING

💡Week 6💡

Lecture
  • I learnt some principles of poster designing
    • Emphasis - make the focus message stand out and easy to be noticed
    • balance and alignment - color theme, intensity, sections, elements should be in a good balance
    • contrast - when the elements in opposition are put together to create a strong visual contrast
    • repetition - repetition unifies and strengthens a design
    • proportion - the arrangement of visual size and weight of elements guiding the viewers eye movement
    •  white space
Task Assigned

  • using layer masking and choosing blending mode to colorize the provided B&W pictures
Progress
  • Sampling
    • First step of coloring is first prepare the color tone I am intending to use, to find more accurate skin tone I did some research and come out with several options for me.

  • Coloring
    • In the first exercise I mainly use brush tool to color the targeted areas, and make the brush strokes blend into the layer underneath, creating a coloring effect
    • for second exercise the approach is a bit different, instead of using brush strokes I use "select and mask" function to create a more refined layer mask, I realized by using this method it overcomes the limitation of brush strokes which is thin hair areas.

Reflection
It took me sometime to figure out the notion behind this exercises which is using colored layer to blend into the picture, creating the coloring effect. I would say once I got familiar with the process because it is quite repetitive on different parts - hair, eyes, lips, etc.

One challenging part is maybe I somehow couldn't make the coloring area more precise, as no matter how long I took to refine there are still parts where the colors crossing the borders. But I tried to minimize it, and see in the future what are the solution I can get through research or consult with Mr Fauzi.

🎨Coloring Exercise 1🎨

🎨Coloring Exercise 2🎨

I personally liked this the most as the eye shadow part is intriguing that I can achieve this effect just through layering.
