Lecture
Starting from Week 11 there will be no lecture where we mainly focus on projects on hand and seek for Mr. Fauzi feedback to improve the work.

📸PROJECT 4: SELF TITLED - DIGITAL POSTER

Research:
Again by starting I was clueless on how should I work with my self titled animated poster. 
Did research to know more about how surrealism should work:
  • Techniques
    • photomontage
    • choice of color
    • blurring the image
    • floating the subject
  • Tricks
    • going under water
    • removal of the face
    • relocating & resizing familiar objects
    • use light & shadow
    • creating portal to another
    • resizing a person
I found some tricks to be useful like resizing person and floating the subject. Lastly I decided the theme using self introduction shown below
 

INTRO

My name is Kek Han Shin, currently studying Bachelor of Computer Science. I am a person that like to think about all possibilities and mysteries that life and even universe holds.

PARAGRAPH 1

I often wonder about questions like what is the meaning of life, does a meaning even exist? Humankind is just a tiny existence in comparison to the vastness that universe holds. 

PARAGRAPH 2

At the same time I think throughout life I have grown a lot, to me, life is a journey where challenges and discomfort might happen. I love having different experiences in life, those friendship, hardwork and goals I have from time to time define the meaning of my life


SUMMARY

A universal definition of meaning of life might not even exist, but you are your own universe you are capable of searching your own 


To be said, the above biography helped me decided on the "galaxy" and "journey theme"
In order to have a better development process I sketched out the rough structure, I am not good at drawing so😅
After Mr Fauzi gave feedback I decided to choose the second sketch as the background of the portrait will be star galaxy with a lot details, by putting double exposure layer to the portrait will be too much at once.
With the confirmed theme I went through Pinterest to search for what examples of galaxy surrealism art I can come up with
 
Starting poster process:
Firstly by starting I have to take portrait pictures with appropriate lighting
Tried out with different posture at set up below 2 pictures are the final ones I decided to include

Next, I need to search for objects on the "surreal" effect, I mainly went through Pinterest to find the suitable ones. I gathered the below elements to further develop them into one art piece

  • first step is to select and mask each selected object from every picture
  • Putting elements together into multiple layers, and make several adjustment layers

  • deciding where to put the main portrait
  • adding the galaxy as background
  • initial outcome


Reflection
I find myself improved in terms of photo taking and knowing which angle to take on. Also I developed the initial draft of my self poster based on my ideation process, However I feel like there could be further improvements, hence I look forward for external advice on what could be improved.
