💡Week 11💡

Starting from Week 11 there will be no lecture where we mainly focus on projects on hand and seek for Mr. Fauzi feedback to improve the work.

📸PROJECT 2B: CONCEPTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOSHOOT 

Research prior starting I did some research and sketch to have a clear idea on what I want to do.
As the mood board suggest I found out I tend to search for edible objects and combine it with usual daily life items as i found it fun and it attracts viewer attention more (because everyone loves food 😃)
With this in mind I start my sketch, I develop a few ideas in mind and tried to come up with different combination of a food and item
After I decided to proceed with the Sardine can and fire extinguisher, because that is the item I got on hand that time lol.
The decided raw picture I decided to work on with.
Photoshop manipulation
  • Selecting object
For Sardine can since the shape is more even and regular, using Photoshop in built function "select object" can pretty well generate desired outline.
For fire extinguisher require more detail crafting hence I have to refine the outline with quick selection tool
  • Choosing the color of background at first as it will help me determine the further adjustments on other layers, chose a lighter background so that the background doesn't outpower the main focal object
  • Sardine can comes in!
  • But immediately I encountered one problem where there is size mismatch on the sardine can and the extinguisher, I don't wat the fire extinguisher to pop up too much as the upper part has too many words it will not fit well with the sardine's red part

the solution: crop out some part out from the extinguisher, using "select & mask" tool, I found the refine edge brush tool also helped as it blurs out the edge of the extinguisher so I can better integrate
the outcome turns out better

  • Crop out using black brush tool on layer mask, to better integrate the fire extinguisher with sardine can
    Brush: flow 17%, hardness 39%
  • adjusting layers, adding new layer mask and brush using black and white brush, the 2 objects start to look integrated.
  • final adjustments
    • for the sardine can I added curve and exposure

    • fire extinguisher I apply brightness and contrast
  • the last touch will be using brush and gaussian blur effect to create shadow and make the combine product more realistic and I also applied "levels"  improving overall visual

A fun combination, sometimes when you are starving, a ready to eat sardine can is all what you need to save your life - like how fire extinguishers save people’s life during emergencies! 

Reflection
When finishing the work and looking at the outcome I am very satisfied. Also I realized how far I have made it to this point as since the early semester I am truly clueless, don't even mentioning Photoshop skills. All the topics I have learnt throughout the week has come into fruition as I know how to apply them to come up with my own ideation. I found out that if you utilize the simple tools like brush, layer mask, adjustment layers, the possibility you can create with your own hands is limitless. As before the conception of me is you have to really master Photoshop to create good artworks, but now I know the simpler tools the more possibility it holds :)
